THE ROCK CONCEPT

To have foreseen is to be forewarned and forearmed

and spared of the heavy laden

Though seen as lying comfortably and

peacefully but inwardly crushed,

seated but burdened as responsibilities came without a choice

Perceived as the rock of ages but at the touch

of the sledge hammer like the soft spot of a stone I come

crumbling and tumbling down as after all I am just human.©️AbroNomaa.06.2019.

POEM

THE TROPICAL FOREST

It's the tropical season
The rains begin to fall
The sudden darkness
The need to find shelter
The thunder and lightning
The dust and sand in the whirlwind
The message,
I've been rained off; echoing through the hallways
Then the communication lines die
No need to bother

The lights dimmer

The smell of heat and dust rising
Glancing through the windows
the silhouettes of people walking
and running, slowly disappears.
But for the rain and distant sounds
of birds, silence falls

The veranda lights are covered by insects
The mosquitoes find a dry corner on the wall
The sounds of water rushing
Pebbles and gravels, cans and bottles
mellifluously washed away.

Barrels, buckets, pots and pans
placed where needed.
The bridges overflowing
as water rushes;
in a Tempestuous manner

People gather round the fire
The feel of cosiness
Some tell tales, others sing traditional melodies,
whiles others are deeply lost in thought.

The odd silence

The sweeping sounds of the rain
on the corrugated aluminium roof tops.
For me the rain is a good excuse.
This is where I'm most happy.
This is where I want to be.

The African Cooking Pot

THE AFRICAN COOKING POT –
A POT OF POETRY

POEM:

Placed on the warm ashes of the fire which seems to
slowly die away whiles daylight dies
this is how I gain my strength

In the distance is the odour and fragrance
of the infusion of smoke from the wood, burning oils,
seasonings and all that had been placed in me
to accomplish a goal

Moulded out of clay and carefully baked to enhance
and strengthen my features and beauty
the older I get, the tastier is all that is placed in me

At the stroke of midnight a new day begins
Morning comes and the preparations begin

The odour and fragrance gradually seeping through
the walls and layers as the touch of the burning fire
ultimately enhances all which has been placed in me.
